Try the Three-Tee Ground Contact Drill
Your first goal is to clip the middle tee with a short, relaxed swing. This gives you a clear way to check where the club meets the ground before you add a ball.
Set up and make five swings
- Set three low tees in a line across your swing path, with the middle tee where the ball would be. On a mat, use a strip of tape to mark the line.
- Set your feet shoulder-width apart with your toes slightly flared out. Start with short, easy swings and aim to brush the ground at the middle tee.
- Finish balanced with your weight forward, your shoelaces turned toward the target, and your arms extended and relaxed in front of you.
Your practice check: How many times out of five did you clip the middle tee? If you keep missing it or brushing the ground early, shorten the swing and try again. When you can repeat the contact, put a ball at the middle tee position and work toward ball-first contact.
What you’ll work on in the first week
Build your grip, stance, and posture, then practice clipping the tees and getting the ball airborne. On the putting green, learn a simple setup and stroke, then practice from 3, 6, and 9 feet and try a longer lag putt.
