I have been teaching Golf since 2001. I am lucky in that I have been around and worked with some of the finest teachers and instructors EVER to teach this game! I have enjoyed learning from all the people I have come across and listening to golf stories from generations of golfers professional and amateur. I will list a few of my golf role models that have especially made an impact on my teaching philosophy. First would be Joe Fagan, he after all is the one who taught me how to hold the putter when I was 4 years old. Second is Hub Bechtol I would attribute him to inspiring me to get back to golf. And last would have to be Albert Salinas. Thanks guy's for all the inspiration!

Rickie Fowler, one of the best golfers in the world.

Rickie Fowler, one of the new breed of golfers, won his first golf tournament in a playoff silencing the critics and putting him into the discussion of the next generation of elite golfers. He is 23 years old and has so much talent and potential. Coming from golf powerhouse OSU, he has been a golf…

Living in the present

Putters that fit

Putters are usually the most overlooked club in our bags, often they are switched out with little thought to the performance attributes involved in the putter design. Most really good putters at any level have used the same putter for years. If they do change the wand it is likely a very similar look and…

The secret to a great golf lesson

I believe that the secret to a great golf lesson is to educate, relate to, and motivate your students. Whatever level of player they may be these three things will serve you both well on your journey. These abilities are what define a teacher or coach and allow a student to become truly great at…

The ONE true fundamental in golf

When I see players practice golf I sometimes wonder what the goal is for the session. Every player I have ever taught has a goal to be a better ball striker. I recognize the value in this goal and try to help them get there through drills that will improve the ability to be more…

Tiger is back, again….

Tiger wins for the first time in over 2 years and he is elated! He looked like beating those 17 players was the greatest accomplishment of his entire career, and it may well have been. I would say that at this point it certainly is. Coming from Australia with a strong showing of T3 and…

Playing with your head

“If 90 percent of this game is mental how much time should you spend on your mental game?” I was asked this question by Lanny Basham Olympic gold medalist, author and teacher, and I realized I had been going about the process of performance in a technical sort of way. Not that you don’t need to…

Golfstats

Tracking your game is the best way to organize your practice time. The key stats you should be concerned with are penalty strokes, proximity to the hole with your chipping and pitch shots, effective bunker play and of course putts per round. Your instructor should be helping you to improve in any of these areas…

Luke Donald takes down the big hitters at the 2011 WGC Accenture match play.

Luke Donald’s win at Dove Mountain comes largely from the fact that he hit 74 percent of the greens in regulation. He one-putted 46 times,  producing 32 birdies over four days. That was seven more than anybody else in the field. A field made up of the top 63 players in the world I might add. I…
